The function :
- We use 'be used to' to describe things that are familiar or customary. (normal, habit, etc.)
Form:
be used to + noun, pronoun, v-ing
(am/is/are/was/were) + used to + noun, pronoun, v-ing
Affirmative:
Subject+ be used to + noun/pronoun/verb in the –ing form
Negative:
Subject+ be (not) used to + noun/pronoun/verb in the –ing form
Question:
Be + Subject+ used to + noun/pronoun/verb in the –ing form
Examples:
- We’ve lived in the city a long time, so we're used to the traffic.
- I didn't like getting up early, but I'm used to it now.
- She’s lived in the UK for a year. She's used to speaking English now.
- Please slow down! I am not used to walking fast.
- Are you used to typing letters?
Study these sentences
- It is normal for my younger brother to send e-mails.
My younger brother is used to sending emails.
- It is normal for me now to get up early to study.
I am used to getting up early to study.
- It is not normal for my grandfather to have nothing to do all day.
My grandfather isn't used to having nothing to do all day.

- We use used to describe past habits or past states that have now changed.
Form: Affirmative:
Subject+ used to (+ infinitive)
Negative:
Subject+ did not use to (+ infinitive)
Question:
Did + subject + use to + (infinitive) ……?
Examples:
My mother used to buy my clothes, but now I choose my own.
She used to be a teacher, but now she's retired.
I used to like cartoon films when I was younger. These days I prefer action films.
Muna used to go camping with her friend when she was a child.
There didn't use to be as much pollution as it's now.
